Decision and policy makers can simulate complex scenarios by describing scenarios and policy options in natural language. The policy description is then translated into programming code and parameters that feed into a simulation. The simulation, comprising millions of virtual firms and people, simulates the effect of the scenario and returns statistics and an analysis to the decision maker. The decision maker can then graphically and statistically explore the results of different policy options on the scenario and choose the policy that fits his success criteria best.
Complex Fiscal Simulations for Equitable and Effective Policy Outcomes
Public spending must be efficient, effective, and equitable. This simulation models the public finance flows for the Federal State of Brazil, the 26+1 Brazilian states, the 5,570 municipalities down to 10,000 school districts. It can replicate the Brazilian education public finances and simulate any scenario from small regulatory changes to complete redesigns of the system, like centralizing redistribution on the federal level or decentralizing it completely.
In the Short-Run We Are All Dead: Non-Equilibrium Dynamics in a Computational General Equilibrium Model
Computable General Equilibrium models, as the name suggests, model the economy as in equilibrium; the transitions to the equilibrium are ignored. In the time spent outside equilibrium, the economy produces different quantities of goods and pollution as predicted by the equilibrium model. If the economy in this time outside of the equilibrium produces more climate gases, the predictions are dangerously wrong.

In the practice, we answered questions such as What is the trade-off between the health and the economic impact of a COVID lockdown decision? To do this, we provided a combination of socio-economic and epidemiological models, with a graphical user interface that policy makers can use to see the result of policy options.

Built agent-based models that show regulators how systemic risk actually propagates through insurance and financial markets — balance sheet by balance sheet — and extended the same machinery to resolve climate and macroeconomic policy jointly. Then I shipped them as interactive web simulators, so policy makers could run their own scenarios instead of waiting on a modelling team.
